Why Most Goal Lists Die by February
Most goal lists get written in a burst of January energy and never read again. The ones that survive have a plan for the days the energy is gone.
- You write twelve goals and cannot say which one matters most.
- The goals are wishes: get fit, save money, be happier.
- Nobody wrote down what will get in the way.
- There is no page for March, when the plan needs adjusting.
- You wanted a plan, and the kit handed you scissors and a glue stick.

Why the Workbook Makes You Cut Twelve Goals to Three
Twelve possible goals is a feature. The workbook asks you to write all twelve, then cut them with three questions, so you end with three you chose and not three you defaulted to. Two is plenty if that is what you have.
Each priority then gets an obstacle and an if-then plan. In 2006, Peter Gollwitzer and Paschal Sheeran reviewed 94 tests of if-then planning and found a medium-to-large effect on reaching goals (d = 0.65). That is an average across many kinds of goals, not a promise for yours, but it is the reason the obstacle page comes before the first week.
The workbook text was drafted with AI assistance. Ink and Index directed it, then edited, checked and laid out every page. The listing says so, and this page does too.
